Q: How Do I get started?
A: It all starts with the Application… Online Apprenticeship Application here…
To begin an application, you must request/create a User Account. Once your account is confirmed, log in and select “Application” tab. Before you begin, be sure to have the following information readily available: Proof of Age, Proof of Completion of High School, an Official High School Transcript, Verification of completing at least one year of High School level Algebra with a passing grade, a DD-214 (for veterans status), Birth Certificate or Passport, Work History or Resume, and proof of a Valid Driver’s License. Once the Application is received with all of the supporting documents, you will be scheduled for an Aptitude Test.
Q: What is the Aptitude Test and what does it consist of?
A: The Aptitude Test…
The GAN Aptitude Test is a pre-employment assessment used by over 50 skilled trade apprenticeships (such as plumbers, electricians, and carpenters) to evaluate candidate readiness. The roughly 2.5-hour exam consists of five core sections: Basic Math, Numerical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Paper Folding, and Mechanical Reasoning.
Q: What is the Waiting List?
A: The Eligibility (Waiting) List…
Once the Test and Personal Evaluation Assessment are completed, your scores are totaled and based on that number, you are placed on a waiting list. As we fill our Apprenticeship Classes (based on the need for Apprentices that our Contractors place on us) we start at the top of the list and work our way down until either the class is full or the need is met.
Q: How long is the Waiting List?
A: The length of the Waiting List is irrelevant…
Because your position on the waiting list is based on how well you score thru the Testing/Evaluation process, It doesn’t matter how long the list is. The higher you score, the higher you sit on our waiting list. The list may be hundreds of people long, and you may be sitting in the top 10.
Q: How long will all of this take?
A: Wait time…
It is impossible to determine how long you will be on the waiting list. There are multiple variables that prevent accurate estimations. These variables are: how well you scored in the Testing/Evaluation process, the demand for new Apprentices the Contractors place on us, Classroom Availability, and the changes to your position on the Eligibility List.
Q: How can my position change on the Eligibility List?
A: Refreshing the Eligibility List…
With every new batch of Applicants that go thru the Aptitude Test and Evaluation, the waiting list gets refreshed. Just as when you were added to the Waiting List, you bumped previous Applicants down, with each subsequent Test/Evaluation your position may be adversely affected as well.
